UK - Quick reminder - Series 2 of The Sarah Jane Adventures is coming later this month. No specific day/time has been given yet, but we can rull out anytime before Saturday 27 September. Monday 29 September seems the best bet, since new episodes premiered on Mondays last fall and almost all CBBC repeats were on that day of the week.

UK - You thought Doctor Who was over till Christmas, right? Well, BBC7 http://www.bbc.co.uk/bbc7 and Big Finish http://www.doctorwho.co.uk are out to prove you wrong. Paul McGann returns as The 8th Doctor and Sheridan Smith returns as Lucy Miller in eight 50 minute full cast radio episodes - Sundays at 6PM and Midnight UK Time starting 19 October. Paul McGann played the Doctor in the 1996 TV Movie and in many Big Finish direct to cd audio stories since 2001. He is the official 8th Doctor, the link between Sylvester McCoy (7th Doctor in Classic Who - late 1980s) and Christopher Eccleston (9th Doctor/New Series 1/2005).

This is actually the second set of Paul McGann audios made for BBC7. An earlier set of 8 Paul McGann/Sheridan Smith episodes ran in late 2006/early 2007. That time the episodes aired on the radio before getting released on CD. For these new episodes the CD releases came first, which is why the radio run was delayed a bit.

No word on whether the previous BBC7/Big Finish Doctor Who series is going to repeat soon.

ITALY - RAISAT Smash began airing The Sarah Jane Adventures Wednesdays at 5PM on 3 September. 1 half hour per week. Episodes are 4:3 pan & scan format, so the sides of the image are removed. Episodes are dubbed into Italian.

LATIN AMERICA - BBC Entertainment Latin America http://latinamerica.bbcentertainment.com started in Mexico, Latin America, and South America. The website is not working yet and I have not found a good link for their schedule, so unknown if Doctor Who, Torchwood, or Sarah Jane are airing there.

AUSTRALIA - The SFSA http://www.sfsa.org.au has gotten word that Nickelodeon Australia has bought the first 2 series of The Sarah Jane Adventures. They report that more details will be in their newsletter The Wall Of Lies 14. At publication time Nickelodeon's website did not have information.

SciFi Channel Netherlands http://www.scifi-tv.nl has obtained the first run rights to Series 3 of Doctor Who for the Netherlands. A 2 episode premiere with the 1965 Peter Cushing Dalek movie begins airing on the channel on 16 September, with many same week repeats. 1 episode per week thereafter. Series 2 premiered on Nederland 2.

CANADA - CBC's website http://www.cbc.ca/television finally has schedule information for September 19, verifying the premiere date for Doctor Who Series 4. Episodes are 9PM all time zones (9:30PM Newfoundland). Voyage Of The Damned skipped. In the Central and Mountain Time Zones this broadcast overlaps with SPACE's http://www.spacecast.com airing of new Torchwood episodes. Neither station is doing a same week repeat. Satellite subscribers and at least some digital cable subscribers who want to watch both shows without taking the time to use a VCR/DVR/DVDR can catch CBC in another time zone to avoid the conflict.

CANADA - BBC Kids http://www.bbckids.ca does not have Classic Doctor Who or the Sarah Jane Adventures in the fall 2008 schedule. This is the first time Doctor Who has been absent since the channel's launch in 2001. Hopefully we can get word from BBC Kids whether the shows will return in 2009. In particular - will BBC Kids air Sarah Jane Adventures Series 2? For now, Doctor Who and Sarah Jane air through at least the 14th of September ...

Torchwood schedule information is included in the Torchwood This Week column http://groups.yahoo.com/group/torchwood . Of note - the radio episode "Lost Souls" will air on BBC Radio 4 this Wednesday in the Afternoon Play spot.

For press releases on Doctor Who, keep an eye on the BBC Press Office http://www.bbc.co.uk/pressoffice and C21 Media http://www.c21media.net .

DWO Whocast http://www.thewhocast.com
Current episodes:
86, where the Whocast decided to get smart with a look at the history and audios of Big Finish. Trevor seemed to lose control of the proceedings early to the agent of kaos (Tony), but it all had a happy ending with a quick review of The Sisterhood Of The (Travelling) Flame - pants, along with many other titles that were discussed. If I got the names of the hosts mixed up - sorry about that, Chief.
Coming this weekend - epiosde 87. Alas, it is probably too late to match DWO Whocast's 86 up with Radio Free Skaro's episode 99 in a crossover of 1960s spy comedy levels.

The Two Doctors http://www.blogtalkradio.com/thetwodoctors

Jim Iaccino and Kenn Gold look at the latest SciFi broadcasts in the US, with emphasis on fitting in Doctor Who, Battlestar Galactica, and - right now - The Middleman. Everything is based on US premiere dates rather than UK. Approximately 90 minutes per episode. Show airs live with a text chat and can be downloaded later.
Current episode - August 31 (90 minutes).

West, Dave AC, Colin, and other Doctor Who fans liked the live Doctor Who: Podshocks so much that they wanted to keep talking afterwards. The resulting show covers Doctor Who, anything else sci-fi related, and can go wildly off in all directions. Chats open 15 minutes before the scheduled start time.
August 31 episode - The two hosts with convention reports were unable to call in, turning the episode into a strategy session to figure out a topic for the next week.
Sunday 2PM EDT (11AM PDT, 7PM BST) - the first episode of September 2008

Radio Free Skaro http://radiofreeskaro.wordpress.com
The 3 Canadians get together on Sundays for about an hour or two or more to discuss the latest in Doctor Who, Torchwood, and Sarah Jane in a fairly amusing manner. Temporarily doing commentary on classic Who stories courtesy of their Randomiser.
Current episode - #98 - The Curse Of Pela-Slog. With the aid of a 4th Canadian, the team face their latest Randomiser choice - The Monster Of Peladon. 1/2 the story is done this time, with the other 3 episodes saved for RFS episode 99. Every once in a while, they actually discuss something on the screen.
Sunday or Monday - #99 - News and snark (recorded September 7) followed by commentary on the last 3 episodes of The Monster Of Peladon (recorded August 31). Alas, it is probably too late to match Radio Free Skaro's 99 up with DWO Whocast's 86 in a crossover of 1960s spy comedy levels. Still, these are the more exciting episodes of Monster Of Peladon and there's always the chance they will destroy the randomiser for picking this gem for the final classic series story.
Coming soon - #100 - where Radio Free Skaro ditch the Randomiser and begin full length commentaries on Series 4 (2008) episodes.

A Podcast Of Impossible Things http://podcastofimpossiblethings.blogspot.com
Cardiff-based Doctor Who fans get together to discuss the latest Doctor Who and do a full length commentary on new Doctor Who episodes.
Current episode - 1.01 "Rose" (posted 6 August). To tide the time till new Who, the Cardiff gang go back to 2005 to look at the Eccleston episodes.

A Whovian's Quest http://www.whovianquest.com
Jonathan Rainer is podcasting his experiences as he watches Doctor Who. In original broadcast order. From 1963. Without a gap. Can he pull it off?
Current episode - 9. Jonathan looks at Planet Of Giants, the start of Season 2.

The Big Finish Podcast http://www.bigfinish.com/podcast
Big Finish podcasts at least once a month to discuss their Doctor Who and other projects (Sapphire and Steel, Stargate (!), Dark Shadows, Bernice Summerfield, etc).
Current episode - Episode 1 of a new series of UNIT audios, starring Nicholas Courtney as Alaistair Gordon Lethbridge-Stewart (possibly not as retired as assumed). The rest of the episodes have to be paid for. Next date for regular podcasts unknown.

Cliff And Stephanie's Doctor Who Fan Podcast http://www.gspn.tv
Current episode - 13 - Review of Planet Of The Ood (free)
Next episode - 14 - Review of Daleks In Manhattan/Evolution Of The Daleks (paid subscribers only)
Cliff and Stephanie Ravenscraft review Doctor Who episodes on a weekly basis. Start of new installments as they review Series 4, skipping Voyage Of The Damned for now and focusing on the Doctor/Donna episodes.
GSPN.tv is a network of podcasts on TV shows, daily life, religion, and other issues that interest the 3 Ravenscrafts. Doctor Who Fan Podcast becomes one of the pay programs in the network starting with episode 12. The existing paying audience ranked Doctor Who dead last in their interests (annoying the hosts who want to do the show but are living off the revenue from their podcasts). If you subscribe to their podcasts in order to hear the new Doctor Who episodes, be sure to alert them that you are doing this. Half the episodes expected to be free, half paid.

Tachyon TV http://www.tachyon-tv.co.uk
Note to Tachyon guys - the brand new episode on iTunes turned out to be 1.2, an episode made in Fall 2007. Surreal choice. Thought you'd like to know - especially if you did not tell iTunes to post it.

MMM Commentaries http://www.mmmcommentaries.com
Roving Australian podcasting gang. Some episodes are a discussion of the latest sci-fi news, including Doctor Who. Other episodes are commentaries on Doctor Who episodes, Star Wars films, some Stargate stuff, and others. Currently on a Blake's 7 kick, but recent commentaries on The Invasion Of Time and The Deadly Assassin are available.

TV Talk with Shaun O'Mac http://blogtalkradio.com/shaunomacradio
Weeknights 6 to 8PM EDT (3 to 5PM PDT) [Friday 7PM EDT/4PM PDT]
Shaun O'Mac (of the Jericho "nuts" campaign) hosts a daily 2 hour show covering all things TV. Doctor Who is usually discussed in the 2nd hour of the Friday show with Two Doctors co-host Kenn Gold. Listen and chat live through the website with archives appearing right after the show finishes.
On the Thursday 4 September episode around 1 hours, 20 minutes in, Benjamin Elliott called in and reported on the new Big Finish season of 8th Doctor episodes coming to BBC7, along with a (very) brief explanation of how radio dramas are thriving in the UK and how to tune in to the episodes when they run.

The Minute Doctor Who Podcast http://web.mac.com/backintheussr6/The_Minute_Doctor_Who_Podcast/Podcast/Podcast.html
Video podcast looking at Doctor Who projects. Episodes are usually under 5 minutes long.
Current episodes - A 4 part Doctor Who retrospective on Series 4 (around 15 minutes in total) where the host looks at each episode and compares it to the episodes from previous series. Guest starring a Christmas tree.

Doctor Who Review Today http://www.talkshoe.com/tc/22756
Live editions Late Fridays 1AM EDT/10PM PDT/6PM BST
Robert Carrie King reviews Doctor Who topics on this Talkshoe program. Newest episode - Genesis Of The Daleks and Destiny Of The Daleks DVD review. Expected to be divided into 2 shows for podcast distribution.

Section B - The Public TV stations.

UNC North Carolina http://www.unctv.org is giving Doctor Who fans some extra attention. Series 2 continues on their main channel Saturdays at 11PM. UNC-ED (over the air subchannel 3, on most digital cable systems, not on satellite) will encore Series 1 Saturdays at 6PM starting tonight, with repeats Thursdays at 8PM.

West Virginia PBS http://www.wvpbs.org has scheduled a repeat of The Christmas Invasion for Thursday 25 September at 10:30PM. This may mean the resumption of Doctor Who on their weekly lineup - it left the schedule immediately after the premiere of Christmas Invasion there some months back.

Series 1 is currently available to public TV stations in a package until February 28, 2009. Series 2 is currently available to public TV stations in a package until March 31, 2010. At this time, stations do not have access to Series 3 and 4.

4 Public TV stations currently have rights to air the classic Doctor Who run (1963-1989). Iowa Public TV is currently airing both Series 2 and Colin Baker episodes. KBTC 28 Tacoma, WA and WCET 48 Cincinnati, OH are airing Tom Baker episodes while resting Series 1. WHRO 15 Norfolk, VA is airing Tom Baker episodes but apparently does not have New Who Series rights.

Three stations have used all their rights to the Series 1 package - WLVT 39 Allentown, PA, WILL 12 Urbana, IL, and Iowa Public TV. Idaho Public TV will air a 5th Cycle of Series 1 starting in October. OETA Oklahoma has used half of their 4th and final cycle of Series 1. WMFE 24 Orlando, FL did not renew Doctor Who. Maryland Public TV is claiming that their rights have expired, though they can still air Series 1 two more times before February 28, and they are not ruling out buying future episodes. If any other stations have non-renewed, they have yet to tell us.

Remember: For the Series 1 and 2 packages, stations have bought the rights to cycle through the episodes 4 times. They are not required to do so. WMFE 24 Orlando, FL is not expected to use their 4th run of Series 1. Other stations may make the same choice for Series 1 as February 28, 2009 comes close. Unless a station admits what they are doing, I'm stuck keeping it here with the most hopeful scenario (the number of times they still *could* air the episodes).
