Gallifrey One's Network 23 will continue the long tradition of celebration of all things Doctor Who, Torchwood, The Sarah Jane Adventures and the science fiction media genre. Attendees to Gallifrey One have come to enjoy a very diverse selection of programming over the years, and 2012 will be no exception. Our program and schedule of activities, which has helped us develop a proud reputation for fun and enjoyment over the years, will be no less than at our previous events... and in fact, much, much more!
Some of the fun things we're planning for 2012 at this early stage include:
Our main ballroom will feature all of our main guests appearing in both solo and group panels, with a few demos and special events thrown in for good measure. Note that some of our guests will only appear once or twice during the weekend, so please be sure to watch for the schedule of events on the website later this year.
Yes, we'll be featuring more live commentaries of Doctor Who, Torchwood and Sarah Jane episodes with selected guests from our program.
Our annual charity event, taking place on Sunday... a great way to support a local charity (to be announced) and grab some terrific Doctor Who merchandise at the same time! Check out the page about this great event here.
Gallifrey 2012 will showcase the legendary actors Nicholas Courtney, who passed away only days after our previous event, and Elisabeth Sladen, who died this past spring. From video programming to discussion panels about their characters, Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart and Sarah Jane Smith, and an on-stage main ballroom tribute, we will honor the memory of these dear actors - and past Gallifrey One guests of honor - all weekend long.
The dynamic Doctor Who actress brings her one-woman show to Gallifrey One in a special Friday night performance on our main stage. "Louise guides you through a week in presenter Joanne's life as she does battle with her nipped and tucked nemesis, the evil agent, and her anti-surgery daughter Rachel. Jameson plays 12 different characters, and tells us what has brought her to this critical point in her life. Should she go under the knife to enhance her looks, or...to hell with it, on a date with her toy boy?"
We're splitting our video programming in two and feature two simultaneous tracks of video fun... which will also include an expanded fan video block on one of the days. We're also going to move some of our traditional video programming around, and give you more video opportunities in two comfortable rooms!
The Masquerade of Mandragora - Saturday night's main stage event... the Gallifrey One Masquerade has become the Doctor Who costuming showcase of the year, and once again we're pulling out all the stops for an evening of spectacle. And this year, half-time (while the judges judge) will feature a live stand-up performance by celebrated writer, comedian, actor and Who fan Charlie Ross.
Mysterious Theatre 337 is a long-time event at Gallifrey One: four guys, one Doctor Who adventure on the screen, done in the style of Mystery Science Theatre 3000. But this year, we're putting "Mysterious Theatre 337" on later than usual, right after the Masquerade, with a big twist… you'll find out more details soon. It's going to be an adventure, to be sure! Please note that this will be restricted this year to 18-and-over only!
Our two official podcasts will be bookending the weekend. Doctor Who Podshock will be in its regular slot on Sunday afternoon taping an episode of their podcast show with some of our guests. Meanwhile, we're happy to announce that Radio Free Skaro will also be in the main ballroom on Friday as the very first event of the weekend, opening our show with lots of laughs.
We'll be bringing back the ever-popular science programs, as well as our costume-themed program tracks, which will take place throughout the weekend.
On Saturday night you can join us for karaoke after the Masquerade... and we're making certain that everyone gets a fair chance at taking the stage. Don't worry, though, we'll also have our annual rock dance on Friday night after the Louise Jameson show, too!
We're keeping the theme under wraps right now, but Friday night's annual showcase party will feature plenty of fun, plus some extra special surprises. We'll have Monte Carlo-style gaming, a cash bar right outside, and plenty of fun.
The kaffeeklatsches have proven so successful (and nearly all of them filled up to capacity this year) that we're bringing them back on all three days of the convention.
We're working hard to make a few changes and ensure that everyone gets as many autographs as they're able to this year. We'll have more details in the near future...
Discussion Panels, Costume Panels, Science Panels and Children's Programming will all be part of the experience, too! And much more! It's still very early, so during the summer months, look for more details about what we're planning, including some surprises in store.
